Supporting Addiction Free Environments - SAFE of Lake County, IN

Supporting Addiction Free Environments (SAFE) is made up of individuals and organizations that want to see the reduction of incidence and prevalence of substance use among adults and adolescents in Lake County, Indiana. This coalition brings together all sectors of the community to build a safe, happy, and healthy environment for its residents. Members include professionals from the prevention/education, substance abuse treatment/intervention, and law enforcement/justice fields. These members work together towards one goal: substance free environments for the Lake County, Indiana residents. Please consider becoming involved in the SAFE to join in the effort to combat drug and alcohol abuse in Northwest Indiana. Any Lake County, Indiana resident or organization is welcome to join. The coalition allows for community members and agencies opportunities for networking, partnership and referral services, as well as training and grant funding opportunities.

SAFE is comprised of the following three active committees:

• Prevention Committee - deterring individuals from the use or abuse of alcohol and drugs through education and awareness programs, activities, services and materials

• Treatment Committee - work to identify gaps in program and service areas for persons in need of recovery from alcohol and other drugs

• Law Enforcement Committee – focuses on the legal consequences of substance use regarding enforcement, prosecution, probation, court and correctional services

Supporting Addiction Free Environments exists for the following purposes:

  1. To reduce the incidence of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs in Lake County.
  2. To invite groups and individuals who wish to propose programs to combat substance abuse through education, treatment and justice.
  3. To formulate and implement a countywide comprehensive plan.
  4. To fund proposed projects by the awarding of grants from the local portion of the Drug Free Community Fund to help fulfill the Mission.
  5. To hold accountable those individuals and organizations receiving grants from the Coalition, requiring that their project is geared towards goals and guidelines.
  6. To network and facilitate/foster with similar groups the sharing of information relative to drug and alchol use prevention, education, treatment, intervention and justice.
  7. To advocate legislative concerns both locally and statewide as it relates to the goal and vision of the Coalition.

 

Executive Board

Supporting Addiction Free Environments has a 6-member board. This board consists of a chairperson, vice-chairperson, secretary, and the 3 chairpersons of the committees: law enforcement, prevention, and treatment. The executive board is responsible for jointly overseeing the activities of the Supporting Addiction Free Environments. The individuals on the board are listed below:
