Merrillville, Indiana - Drug Free Community 

The Merrillville, Indiana DFC (Drug Free Community) was established to strengthen collaboration to support efforts of community coalitions working to prevent and reduce substance use among youth. Awarded in 2015, the Merrillville DFC project is a 5 year project federally funded through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. The project works with Key Sector Leaders within Merrillville, Indiana to identify and address local youth substance use problems to create sustainable community-level change. Merrillville’s DFC’s action plan targets prevention messaging, environmental strategies, and model prevention programs that focus on reducing alcohol use, binge drinking, and marijuana use among Merrillville youth.
